Before I go into today's post, a word about the band Kittie. Kittie is an interesting band. When they first came onto the scene, they were a novelty. It was basically- OMG, teenage girls doing metal. But over the years, the Lander sisters have held their own. They have weathered the storm of criticism (especially since their musical style getting harder which is the inverse of what usually happens with bands, see Metallica). They have weathered ridiculous backlash like having to hear how they lost the pretty ones when band members Talena & Fallon left (both of whom are in the band Amphibious Assault). And speaking of, they had to weather losing a lot of bandmates. Kittie is a band with a lot of determination and I canh definitely respect that.
Now to the letter L. Paz Lenchantin. For some reason, the woman and the bass guitar have become a perfect match. There are a ton of great examples of this and one of my favorites is Paz. She's not some virtuoso. She just happens to exude cool. She was a member of Zwan and she performed on an Queens of the Stone Age album and it's that's not enough to cement her, check out her work in A Perfect Circle. Long before the days of Iha & White, Paz was a member of the Maynard Keenan side project and won me over during the video for Judith. In the video, she's all high heels, arched back and cool. And the director was a genius to leave in the shot of her tying up her hair during the break.
