It's time for Rock cliche #2- bye bye drummer boy. I live in New York and I know that drummers are hard to find. Having rhythm with the drums is not something everyone has. And simply put, not everyone can afford a drum set. But still for some reason, drummers get the boot with a surprising rate.
Who falls into this cliche? The #1 example- the Beatles. Does Pete Best ring a bell. The rock landscape is littered with fired drummers. Blink 182 had Scott Raynor before Travis Barker. The Smashing Pumpkins earn their second appearance in the cliche theme with their firing of Jimmy Chamberlain. How about Steven Adler (Guns & Roses), Dave Abbruzzese (Pearl Jam), Phil Rudd (AC/DC), Ryan Vikedal (Nickelback)...I don't know why the drummer is often so expandable when a good drummer is so hard to find.
A band who doesn't fall into that cliche is Def Leppard. Their drummer gets into a car accident and loses an arm and they stick by him and over 20 years later, he's still in the band and still a great drummer.

Dang, I forgot about that one. It's a Def Lep song from 2002 and shows that the band still have some gas left in the tank. |
